The annoyance of having spare wheels and tyres sitting in the garage on the ground and stacked up never really came up until I moved into my current, small garage.
There was no chance I’d be buying materials for this one, It had to be simple and made from scraps left over from building a couple of other pallet projects. I ended up with the supports that were previously going to be thrown away – I had thrown plenty of these out when building other things as they are thick and heavy. When I realised the wheel rack would be a good idea but need to be quite hefty to take the weight of a few car shoes , I knew these slats would do the job! First off was to get every nail and scrap out of them.
Once this was all tidied up I moved onto working out what each slat would be used for and chose the legs.
Measuring and marking out was up next – I pre drilled most holes to make putting the rack together as easy as Ikea furniture!
It was pretty rapidly put together – all up I’d suggest about an hour in total including the time to measure and cut everything. I used 150mm wood screws due to the thick wood and to ensure there was enough covered to take the weight.
I aimed for either wheels with tyres or just wheels alone to fit on the rack. It’s very solid and cost absolutely nothing to make. not a cent! There is now a tidy storage place for my spare shoes! More shed stuff soon!
